A 7-story, 150-unit residential condominium loft building located in Chicago’s prestigious Streeterville neighborhood; situated in an impeccable location facing Lake Michigan, Navy Pier, and central to many of Chicago’s cultural, recreational entertainment, and shopping attractions.
The 540 N. Lake Shore Drive building was constructed in two phases; the east facing portion of the building, fronting Lake Shore Drive, was completed in 1914 and used by the Krasberg Engineering and Manufacturing Corporation, maker of phonograph equipment. The western portion of the building was constructed in 1919. After several decades of light manufacturing use, portions of the building became home to Columbia College in 1963. In 1977, the building was rehabilitated into 150 apartments, and then eventually converted into condominiums in 1992. It remains one of the neighborhood's last remaining true loft residences with unique characteristics i.e., high-ceilings, timber and exposed brick throughout.
